John Adams, 71, a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, died Friday in Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. A longtime Chicago-area resident, Mr. Adams formerly managed bowling alleys and restaurants. He was most proud of his management of the Petersen Classic bowling tournament at a bowling alley at 35th Street and Archer Avenue in Chicago in the 1950s, said his son, John. Other survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Schiszik; a brother; a sister; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Adams-Winterfield and Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove.
