The Lockport girls volleyball team started the 1997 campaign on the right note, with early-season victories over two ranked teams, Mother McAuley and Downers Grove South.
But the last seven days have been anything but easy. After losing to No. 4 Lyons Township last Friday and No. 5 Stagg Wednesday night, the second-ranked Porters (6-2) rebounded to sweep St. Ignatius 15-8, 15-5 Friday night in Chicago.
“This was a good win,” Lockport coach Julia Hudson said. “We are real pleased with our performance tonight. It came down to serving and receiving, and we did a better job in that category tonight than we did earlier in the week.”
Leslie Przecwas had nine kills and Stephanie Jackson and Ashley Ritter each chipped in five kills for Lockport.
Lyons Township Quad: Noreen Carroll had 12 kills, 26 assists and six blocks while Katie Maley and Jamie Barnish had 15 kills each as Lyons (12-0) swept Morton 15-3, 15-5, Lincoln-Way 15-7, 15-13 and Minooka 15-5, 15-4 in the round robin.
Glenbard West Invitational: Four-time defending tournament champion Naperville Central (8-1-2) captured Pool B after sweeping Immaculate Conception 15-6, 15-12 and Andrew 15-0, 15-4. Elizabeth Gower had 13 kills and 37 assists in the Redhawks’ two wins. Glenbard West, Fremd and Glenbard South were victorious in the other pools.
Hinckley-Big Rock d. Malta 15-2, 15-4: Robyn Scott’s five kills led the Royals (4-2).
Kelvyn Park d. Orr 15-3, 15-9: In the Public Blue North, Cindy Camacho had five kills for the Panthers (5-1-1, 4-0).
Libertyville d. Carmel 16-14, 15-6: Amy Foley (five kills) and Lindsey Hanlon (nine assists) carried Libertyville.
Mother Guerin d. Mather 15-0, 14-16, 16-14: Natalie Gillett (13 kills) and Colette Walz (10 kills) led the Gamblers (7-2).
South Shore d. Corliss 15-6, 15-12: Bianca Douglas had eight kills to spark South Shore (4-5, 4-0) in the Public Blue South.
Woodlands d. Morgan Park Academy 15-4, 15-2: Amanda Marko served six aces as Woodlands (5-4, 3-0) swept the Independent School League match.

Amundsen 6, Von Steuben 4: Ariel Vega had four goals and one assist to lead Amundsen (5-4, 5-0) in the Public Red North.
Eisenhower 2, Argo 1: Heriberto Zanbrano’s goal tied the game in regulation and Ricardo Rangel scored the winning goal in the shootout as Eisenhower (7-1-1, 4-0) edged Argo (7-1-2, 4-1) to claim first place in the SICA North.
Hinsdale Central 2, Shepard 0: Goals by Joe Teelucksingh and John Motsinger paced the Red Devils (4-2-2). Dave Hall recorded his third shutout with eight saves.
Kelly 6, Prosser 0: Flavio Orejeo had a hat trick and Jose Gordillo two goals and two assists for Kelly (5-1, 4-1 Public Red Central).
Kennedy 3, Bogan 0: Margarito Porras, Ernesto Angel and Salvador Patino scored for Kennedy (5-0, 5-0) in the Public Red South.
Maine East 4, Zion-Benton 1: Martin Simson and Pawel Kowalik scored twice for Maine East (3-5-1).
Rich East 4, Bradley-Bourbonnais 1: Mike Thompson had two goals and Tim Holendonner added three assists as Rich East (9-0, 4-0 SICA South) handed Bradley (5-1, 3-1) its first loss.
Rich South 5, Kankakee 1: Chris Moore scored twice and Chris Reed added a goal and an assist for the Stars (2-2 in the SICA South).
Steinmetz 2, Senn 1: Davis Klosowski scored the game-winner in the shootout for Steinmetz (4-2, 3-2 Red North).
Thornton Fractional North 5, Tinley Park 4: Warren Chambers’ goal with 2 1/2 minutes left in the second overtime gave T.F. North (1-5, 1-4 SICA Central), which is in its first year with a varsity soccer program, its first victory.
Tilden 1, Curie 0: Hamilton Ramirez scored the lone goal and Elvis Ramirez (nine saves) earned his second shutout for Tilden (4-1).
Washington 3, Bowen 1: Angel Castillo’s hat trick paced Washington (4-1-1, 3-1-1) in the Red South.
