Expensive mistake: Many dollars will be added to restoration of the Fox River Aqueduct on the I&M Canal after an arbitrary architectural change failed to match the original design. Rather than scuttle the multimillion-dollar project, jeopardizing canal trail restoration, workers will finish the project with the wrong stone facing, then go back to correct it next spring. . . . Meanwhile, the Illinois State Museum has a daylong bus excursion through the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor on Oct. 4 to explore the archaeology, history, natural history and autumn scenery–and, no doubt, to photograph the blundered Fox River Aqueduct.
