Northwestern’s arrogance has just become public. I believe that the university reneging on a commitment to retain the name of Dyche Stadium in perpetuity is entirely consistent with how they have treated the City of Evanston for a very long time.

NU tells us they are a “not-for-profit” private institution. In the city of Evanston this translates into no property taxes paid for property they own in the city, going beyond the height requirements of the new stadium, then saying “Oops, we didn’t know,” etc.

To discard the Dyche family name in favor of a current donor speaks volumes to the hidden ethical lapses behind the private facade. Now everyone can glimpse Northwestern’s true character. Makes you shudder, doesn’t it?
