The presence of Schaumburg quarterback Kurt Kittner and his lofty statistics didn’t faze No. 8 Palatine (4-0) Saturday afternoon.

In fact, the Pirates picked off two of the Illinois-bound senior’s passes and converted them into touchdowns in their 54-20 rout of the host Saxons.

The loss, though, was felt beyond the standings for Schaumburg (2-2) as Kittner suffered a thumb injury late in the first half and did not return.

“I think it’s a (torn) tendon,” said Schaumburg coach Tom Cerasani of Kittner’s status. “But I’d be guessing. . . . All I know is he can’t play (quarterback).”

Kittner was intercepted on two consecutive possessions in the first quarter, first by Sergio Lund and then by Mark Verne. Palatine, which scored on five of its six possessions, turned both turnovers into touchdowns and led 35-12 at the half.

Lund was 5 for 5 passing for 80 yards and three TDs for the Pirates, while Reginald McClure carried the ball 16 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Yaacov Yisrael chipped in with two TDs.

“This was as complete a football game as we have played all season,” first-year Palatine coach Bob Schuetz said.

Kittner, who finished 13 of 27 for 239 yards and one touchdown, could miss six weeks at quarterback, according to Cerasani, but will probably play linebacker next week.

Bolingbrook 42, Bradley-Bourbonnais 14: Antoineo Harris rushed for 163 yards and touchdowns of 4, 5, 7 and 54 yards and Eric Cawthon tossed two TD passes to Todd Howard (25 and 58 yards) as No. 3 Bolingbrook improved 4-0, 2-0 in the SICA Gray with its rout of the visiting Boilermakers (1-3, 0-2). Andy Dimarzio ran for a touchdown and threw another for Bradley.

Loyola 14, Brother Rice 0: Vince Duet caught two touchdown passes, the first on a fake field goal, as the 18th-ranked Ramblers (3-1, 1-1 Catholic Metro Blue) rebounded after a loss to Mt. Carmel last week by downing the Crusaders (3-1, 1-1). Loyola got solid play at quarterback from both Chris Proesel, who connected with Duet in the first quarter, and Josh Dunn (12 completions, 95 yards), who hit Duet in the third.

“Our two QBs really got our team fired up,” said Rambler coach John Hoerster. “They came out and played controlled football and were poised when they had to be.”

Collins 20, Crane 6: Raheen Lamb had three touchdown runs, including a 45-yarder, to lift the Cobras (3-1, 1-0) past Crane (1-3, 0-1) in the Public Illini Northwest. Lamb carried 17 times for 155 yards.

Farragut 8, Austin 6: Patrick Moore’s 31-yard touchdown run on a reverse early in the third quarter was enough for the Admirals (2-1, 1-0). Austin is 2-2, 0-1 in the Public Intra-City North.

Gordon Tech 40, Hales Franciscan 20: Eric Williams ran for three touchdowns and returned a kickoff 88 yards for another and Elliot Wolfe rushed for 146 yards and one TD as Gordon Tech (2-2, 1-1) rolled past Hales (1-3, 0-2) in the Catholic Metro Blue.

A Wells (0-4, 0-1) fumble with under a minute to play sealed the victory for Kelvyn Park.

Maine East 21, Niles North 14: Nick Bassler had an 11-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and Bart Banaszewski returned a punt 62 yards for another score as Maine East (2-2) built a 14-0 lead at the half. Charles Jones added a 13-yard touchdown run to give Thornwood a 13-6 lead. A late touchdown brought the Falcons (1-3, 1-1) to within a point, but they missed the conversion.

Westmont 47, Elmwood Park 18: Dave Charney ran for a school-record 378 yards and five touchdowns to lead Westmont (2-2) to the non-conference victory. Charney also added a 78-yard kickoff return for a sixth touchdown. His rushing total was the 10th highest in state history.

“Dave really busted out,” said Westmont coach Jim Walker. “Let’s hope he keeps going now.”
