Police have recovered more than 1,900 tickets sold for a phony Spice Girls concert in Hawaii, a scam police say the promoter concocted to pay for a sex-change operation.

The concert featuring the British pop group was to have taken place July 29 on the island of Hawaii.

Akram Abdullah-Wasi, formerly known as John Lewis, allegedly told police he sold the tickets to raise money for the operation. He charged $40 for adults and $25 for students for the fake concert.

Police discovered the concert was phony after calling Spice Girls representatives.

The bogus “Summer Blast 97,” also was to feature the rap group Freak Nasty and local group Sunland.
