A proposal that might have meant less time standing in line to register for various Park Ridge Park District programs has been rejected by district commissioners.

Saying it was too complicated, commissioners voted 4-3 last week against the proposal.

“I’m afraid, because it’s overly complex, that it’s going to doom itself to failure,” said Commissioner Gail Wilkening.

Drawn up by Commissioner Robert Trizna, the plan called for a pre-registration for various sports and other activities. The signups would be conducted by mail, ahead of regular registration days, and would ensure placement for those who pre-registered.

But Commissioner Gary Somerman, who voted against the proposal, pointed out that those who didn’t pre-register would be at a disadvantage in not knowing if a program had been filled.

Commissioner Helen Schaeffer said she voted in favor of the proposal after hearing complaints from citizens about spending too much time in line or who physically were unable to stand a long time.
