Enrollment growth will cause serious classroom space problems in Wauconda District 118 schools if voters reject a $14.1 million referendum proposal, the district’s superintendent said.

In a recent presentation to the school board, Supt. John F. Barbini projected how enrollment growth up to the year 2001 would affect District 118 schools if the proposal is not passed.

Elementary schools might have to use mobile classrooms, and music and art rooms would be converted into classrooms, Barbini said.

At Wauconda High School, enrollment growth would also cause space problems, including strains on computer and science labs.

The owner of a home with a market value of $150,000 would be charged $33.50 more in taxes next year if the proposal is approved Nov. 4, William Harkin, district business manager, has said.
