James M. Delaney, 87, a resident of Elmhurst for 35 years, died Saturday in Snellville, Ga. Mr. Delaney was a WWII Army veteran who served in the Pacific. He retired from Standard Oil of Indiana in 1974. “He took up sailing while in his 50s and continued to sail until the end,” said his son, Robert Delaney. Born in Chicago, Mr. Delaney was a member of the Woodmen of the World, DuPage Yacht Club and the Columbia East Senior Friends of Georgia. Other survivors include his wife, Catherine; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst.
