Cora Kissel, 75, of Wheaton, a former bookkeeper for the State Bank of Lombard and a professional softball player, died Sunday in Parkway Terrace Nursing Home, Wheaton. Born in East Chicago, she worked for the bank for 12 years, retiring in 1975. She was a former bookkeeper for the Milwaukee Railroad. Mrs. Kissel played first base on a Milwaukee Railroad professional softball team in the 1940s. Her daughter, Kathryn Bergstrom, said, “That’s how she met her husband, because he used to play men’s softball for a local team.” Other survivors include her husband, Edward R.; a brother; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
