Members of the Schaumburg Township Building Committee Wednesday night agreed to pay $27,500 of the $40,000 being withheld from a contractor, Itasca Construction, for items yet to be completed in the new Township Office Building.
The building at one Illinois Boulevard in Hoffman Estates opened in October 1996. Township officials said repairs that still need to be completed include the redesign of the ramp for handicapped access, redoing unacceptable curbing in the main parking lot, repairs to the roof where officials say water damage is present and some electrical rewiring.
The remaining $12,500 owed to Itasca Construction is expected to be paid next spring, upon further inspection of the building after the winter season.
In other news, committee members still are discussing how to handle snow removal for this winter. Last winter, Hoffman Estates did the snow plowing around the township building, but township officials said the village’s trucks were damaging the curbs and caused significant salt damage to the sidewalks.
