If you want to experience firsthand what the new Symphony Center is all about, you have 24 hours-we hope-in which to do so. The Chicago Symphony’s renovated and expanded new home (which incorporates Orchestra Hall) at 220 S. Michigan Ave. is scheduled to open its doors to the community for a full day and night of free music, plus tours and discussions. At press time, union negotiations are continuing in hopes that events scheduled for Marshall Field’s Day of Music at Symphony Center can begin at the stroke of midnight Saturday and continue until 11:59 p.m. Sunday. See the Music listings for highlights; if you’d like a complete schedule of all the CSO’s opening festivities, go to www.chicagosymphony.org or call 312-294-3000.
