Chicago Wolves goaltender Wendell Young collected his seventh career shutout, stopping all 29 shots, as the Wolves blanked the Manitoba Moose 3-0 in the International Hockey League’s season opener at Winnipeg Arena Thursday night.

The victory marked the first opening night win in the Wolves’ four-year franchise history (1-2-1).

The Wolves outshot Manitoba 38-29. Two of their three goals came on the power play.

Wolves skipper John Anderson, getting a victory in his IHL coaching debut, weaved a squad of 13 unfamiliar faces, four of whom entered Wolves camp in the last four days: Matt Martin, Steve Martins, Kevin Dahl and Jamie Baker.

The Wolves continue their five-game road trip Saturday when they battle the Dragons in San Antonio.
