Tucked between Interstate Highway 355 on the east and Illinois Highway 53 to the west, Maryknoll Townhomes in Glen Ellyn is the perfect place for homeseekers who want to settle where the living is easy and the roads lead everywhere.

Opened early last year by Hickory Hills-based Corrib Construction/Development Co., the 70-townhouse complex is about one-quarter of the way toward completion. Its name and the names of the streets–Abbey Drive, Chancel Circle, Chancel Lane–are reminders that the 11-acre site once was part of Maryknoll Seminary.

“It’s true that it’s easy for residents to hop on expressways from here or drive to the heart of Glen Ellyn or nearby strip shopping malls in a matter of minutes, but we’re offering a lot more than location,” said John Sigman, Corrib’s sales manager. “Construction is top quality, rooms are spacious and light, and plenty of closets and full basements provide lots of storage space.”

Homeowner association dues include all exterior maintenance.

Two-story dwellings are arranged in groups of four, five and six units. All have two-car garages, fireplaces and skylights, plus laundry rooms and half baths on the first floor. Decks or patios and carpeting are part of the sales package.

The three interior-unit designs are the 2,146-square-foot Lakeland, the 2,146-square-foot Lakeland II and the 2,335-square-foot Waterford.

Priced at $269,900, the 3-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath Lakeland is the least expensive home offered. The first floor features a 9-by-23-foot U-shaped kitchen work space and dining area to the left of the foyer; a dining measuring about 13 1/2 by 10 1/2 to the right; a nearly 17 foot square rear-facing living room with vaulted ceiling and fireplace; and a master bedroom, measuring about 17 1/2 by 12, with adjacent tub, separate shower enclosure, twin lavatories and toilet, a walk-in clothes closet and linen cabinet.

Upstairs, a 27 1/2-by-15-foot loft offers versatile space for a den or office. A full bath serves the remaining bedrooms, one just over 10 by 14 the other about 10 1/4 by 14 1/2.

The brand-new Lakeland II design echoes the Lakeland in size and price, but has two rather than three bedrooms. Here the master bedroom/bath has been moved to the second floor and in its place on the first floor is a family room, making it ideal for expansive entertaining. The master bedroom is about 20 1/2 by 15 1/3, the other measures 14 by 13.

The Waterford is a 2,335-square-foot home with 3 bedrooms, a loft, 2 1/2 baths and a first-floor family room and is priced at $274,900.

Like the Lakeland II, the Waterford’s living room (about 17 by 20), adjacent family room (about 17 by 14) and formal dining room (about 13 by 13) promise wonderful opportunities for entertaining.

Two end-unit styles are available: The 2,142-square-foot Maryknoll, priced at $276,900, and the 2,435-square-foot Somerset, priced at $284,900.

The Maryknoll boasts a first-floor master suite with a bedroom measuring about 14 by 15 1/2, two walk-in closets and a bath that has a tub, separate shower enclosure, toilet and twin countertop lavatories. Focal point of the 18 by 12 living room is the fireplace, flanked by windows and an exterior door. The windowed dining room (about 14 by 12) and kitchen/dinette (about 14 by 27) are spacious and filled with natural light.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, each large enough to accommodate twin beds, a full bath and a loft, measuring about 14 1/2 by 11, with skylighted cathedral ceiling.

The Somerset, Maryknoll Townhomes’ largest and most expensive design, has a well-defined foyer; an living room measuring about 18 1/2 by 13; a family room (about 14 by 16 1/2); dining room (about 13 by 11 1/2); kitchen/dinette (about 13 by 20); and a 10 by 11 1/4 den, the latter suitable for use as a bedroom or office.

The second floor has a master suite, two other bedrooms with walk-in closets, a second full bath and a loft.

Prices include ceramic tile foyers and bathrooms, cultured marble vanities, oak cabinets and a choice of hardwood or ceramic kitchen floors.

Kitchens are equipped with General Electric sealed-burner gas ranges and microwave ovens, ventilating fans, dishwashers, disposals and double-basin enameled cast iron sinks.

The $95-a-month assessment fee includes lawn and landscaping maintenance, snow removal, scavenger service and common area insurance and utilities.

Five new furnished models are open to visitors weekdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends from 12:30 to 5 p.m.
