Your Sept. 28 Page 1 story on the backlash at the global economy is surprisingly one-sided and inaccurate.
Your reporter, R.C. Longworth, contends “capitalist economies need rules.” Yet study after study shows that economies with the least restrictions produce the best results for those in the upper, middle and lower classes. In fact, Milton Friedman came to Chicago last spring to make a speech on this very topic.
Is there some reason Mr. Friedman, Chicago’s Nobel Prize-winning economist, wasn’t quoted? Or how about Gary Becker, another Chicago economist who has won the Nobel Prize and who has expertise in this area? They weren’t quoted because they would have riddled your reporter’s article with the facts, something that was sorely lacking in its writing.
