I think reader Tony Guigli (“Musseled out,” Voice, Sept. 30) should take into account that the extermination of the “three-horned wartyback mussels” could have a profound impact on the ecosystem in which we live. How can scientists verifiably predict what will happen in the Great Lakes without this species?
Perhaps Mr. Guigli should show more appreciation for a supposedly “bleeding-heart liberal environmentalist movement” that looks out for the well-being of all people, including right-wing conserva-tives who continue to bash it and call for cuts in its budget.
