Joseph E. Van Ginder, 87, a retired detective sergeant with the Chicago Police Department, died Friday in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Born in Chicago, Mr. Van Ginder was a longtime resident of Palos Park. He served with the police department for 25 years. He also operated Beverly Woods Construction Co., a Palos Park-firm that built homes in the Chicago area. There were no immediate survivors. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago. Mass will be said at noon Monday in Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W. 111th St., Palos Hills.
