We asked you what kind of KidNews contests you wanted, and did you tell us!
Here’s what you said:
— More of you like call-ins than write-ins. “Call-ins are definitely better than write-ins. They are better because people don’t want to take the time to write a letter,” said Joe V., 9. Of those kids who answered our survey, 105 agreed that call-ins rule.
But 83 said right on to write-ins.
“Write-ins are better because kids like to write. Call-ins are fun, but if you only have three lines open, it is ridiculous,” said Michael D., 10.
— We asked if you would prefer contests based mostly on luck or on brains and skill. Brains won out. Only 46 hoped to luck out, but 87 said brains should win.
“Contests are around to be fun. They should also be challenging,” said Lenny D., 9.
— Most readers wanted to compete for BIG prizes. We asked if your kind of contest is one with a few way-wonderful prizes that are also way tough to win, and 92 said yes. But 55 readers said they would prefer a contest with more prizes that aren’t as wonderful but are easier to win. And lots of readers sounded like Kate D., 9: “A shopping spree is a good prize because you can buy whatever you want.” (To those of you who said $5,000 prizes would be good: We wish we had that kind of dough!)
— Most readers said they love contests. Only 19 readers said they’re totally wrecked when they don’t win. But 145 said they were a little disappointed but had fun. Here’s how Lauren L., 9, put it: “Contests are good because they teach kids who lose what it feels like, because you don’t always win in life. If you win, it makes you feel special.”
