James I. Hanlock, 89, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Winfield, a retired general foreman at Electro-Motive in La Grange, died Saturday in Clearwater. He worked in a small-machine repair plant in Cicero in the 1930s and went to Electro-Motive, which made locomotives, when the plant opened in the late 1930s. He remained in the United States during World War II, making guns and tanks for the Army as well as locomotives for the government when Electro-Motive retooled for defense-related work. Mr. Hanlock retired in the mid-1960s, his son James said. He moved from Elmwood Park to Winfield in 1952, and then to Florida in 1975. Other survivors include his wife, Henrietta; two other sons, Leonard J. and Richard A.; a sister; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Leonard Memorial Home, 0 S 033 Church St., Winfield. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 0 S 233 Church St., Winfield.
