Max H. Richter, 87, died Sunday at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge from heart ailments. A former engineer with the Illinois Coil Springs Co., Mr. Richter founded the Richter Spring Corp., in 1945. He ran the company, which makes springs for automobiles, industrial machinery and appliances, until 1970. He also founded J. M. Engineering, a leasing company specializing in springs. Mr. Richter reported to his office up until this spring, even after his official retirement in 1996. “He was so dependable,” said his wife, Jeanette. “He was a friend, adviser and confidante to so many in the business world.” A 43-year resident of Franklin Park, Mr. Richter graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago and won a football scholarship to the University of Florida. Other survivors include two sons, Robert and Arnold, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Cuneo-Columbian Funeral Home, 10300 W. Grand Ave., Franklin Park.
