NextLevel Systems Inc. and Zenith Electronics Corp. have won 1997 Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for “outstanding achievement in technological advancement.” Chicago-based NextLevel’s Satellite Data Networks Group was presented with an engineering Emmy for development of real-time hardware for motion estimation. Motion estimation is a critical component in digital video compression, the technology that enables broadband operators to increase the amount of programming they can deliver in a given frequency space. Zenith, of Glenview, won its Emmy for developing the industry-standard wireless remote control.
