Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun has established a remarkable record on substantive legislative issues, although her record is often ignored by the press. The senator has been a leader in the Senate on education, the environment and the economy, and she has won numerous awards from groups of teachers, farmers, police officers and others.
That’s why Republican after Republican has backed away from challenging her, not because they are “scared away” by federal campaign funding laws, as your editorial on Sept. 28 wrongly concluded.
I am proud to have backed Sen. Moseley-Braun during her first Senate campaign in 1992, when she was a scrappy, underdog challenger who wasn’t “scared away” from putting her name on the ballot. Her record as a senator makes me even prouder to support her re-election.
