Communities located within the Illinois & Michigan National Heritage Corridor are eligible for a state matching grant of up to $2,500 for projects, programs or other activities commemorating the 150th anniversary of the canal next year.

According to the Canal Corridor Association, a Chicago-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the economic revitalization of the heritage corridor, projects and programs eligible for the grants need to celebrate the legacy of the I&M Canal in ways that are meaningful to local residents and deepen understanding of the region’s shared heritage.

To assist potential applicants for the sesquicentennial matching grants, the association will hold workshops from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Morris Public Library in Morris, and on Oct. 28 in the Worth Village Hall.
