Thomas M. McNicholas, 73, died of cancer Tuesday in his home on Chicago’s Far Northwest Side. A lifelong resident of Chicago, Mr. McNicholas was a retired lieutenant of the Chicago Fire Department and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. “He loved the fire department and his family,” said his daughter, Coleen Janiszewski. “Those were his two loves in life.” Other survivors include his wife, Mildred, two daughters, Mary Beth Alswede and Peggy; two sons, Michael and John; a brother; a sister; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Rd., in Park Ridge.
