What is a flumpet? A beguiling cross between a trumpet and a flugelhorn that mixes the tonal punch of the former with the burnished timbre of the latter. Art Farmer plays his flumpet throughout this free-spirited, live performance, and his signature sound–lithe and nimble yet melodically expressive–finds fitting accompaniment from tenor saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Bill Bell, bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath.
