A tentative proposal to build a 183-unit apartment complex in Gurnee was given a positive reception by the Plan Commission a month after the developer’s initial proposal was shot down because of its density.
Pickus Construction Co. requested the informal hearing before the commission in order to receive tacit approval for the project before pursuing detailed site plans and engineering studies, said Jim Pickus, a vice president with the company.
The plan calls for seven apartment buildings to be built on 20 acres of land on the west side of Delaney Road, north of Ryan Road. Another Pickus apartment complex, Osprey Lakes, lies to the south and is nearly completed, Pickus said.
The original plan for the development called for 10 buildings, which Plan Commission members said was too dense, according to the village’s comprehensive plan.
If approved, the company aims to break ground in March.
