A Friends of the Park Committee is being formed to monitor maintenance and other concerns at the Imagination Station Playscape outside Mokena Elementary School, the school board learned this month.
Community volunteers, directed by an architect, finished building the playground designed by Mokena pupils last summer, and finishing touches are being added.
PTA members have built two picnic tables and benches for the area, and school support staffers are installing them, according to Assistant Supt. Pat Chesla.
Signs reminding people that smoking is prohibited on school property are on order and will be installed soon, one on Willowcrest Lane so people will see it as they enter the parking lot.
Extra security will be on hand over the Halloween weekend to forestall vandalism, and district officials are looking into the cost of buying surveillance cameras, Chesla said.
