I am writing about the “Taunting teens” article (Oct. 7 Tough News). I hope all people will learn from this.

It is wrong for people to tease and torment a person who is a little heavier than you are.

You have to remember that God made you and loves you no matter what.

I hope the tormentors learn a lot from this and never do it again.

The truth is out there

Why is it so hard for people to accept that there might be life more intelligent than our own out there?

There are millions and millions of galaxies with thousands of planets, and you guys don’t think that even just one sustains life like our own?!

And another thing: How come everyone thinks that aliens are ugly and strange looking?! They could look like us. And just think, the aliens out there think that we are ugly-looking aliens too.

Friendly start

The first week of school we had a friendship week. We watched two TV shows that featured friends, “I Love Lucy” and “The Honeymooners.” We played a spider-web game where you say your name and favorite snack. Then you throw the ball to another person and they have to say what the person said. Then they have to say their name and their favorite food.

We also made friendship bracelets and we read a book about friends. I think the first week of school was cool because we had fun and we got to know about friendship. We also got to know other people.

Still thinking of Di

In response to Hilary H. (Sept. 23 Backtalk): Get a clue. Diana wouldn’t have been a nobody without her royal title.

I’ll agree with you that royalty is corrupt, but that isn’t the point. The point is the world has lost a great person.

I met Diana when she came to Chicago. She was kind and gentle to all. She was definitely not stupid.

Doug N., 14 Lisle

I very much admire Princess Diana. She turned her life around after her sad childhood, her battle with bulimia and her divorce. Just as she was turning into a truly happy woman, her life was taken from her. I will never understand how God could let this happen.

Well, now I must move on from my mourning. Instead of thinking of her death only, I am going to try to follow her good example and try to get involved in solving the problems of land mines.

I have written a poem dedicated to her:

Sweet Lady of Wales

you have set off to sail

upon the oceans of heaven

Your beautiful face, from earth it has gone

but your spirit shall stay with me, forever on.

Girl power

I don’t like the fact that only men can make it to the big leagues. On television commercials all you see are male role models, and on the sports channels all there is is male basketball, football, soccer, etc. You never see female anything, not even for commercials. During gym class only the guys can play push or touch football, while the girls have to play flag football.

Some girls like to tackle, so why do we have to play flag football instead of tackle football?

We can do just as good as males.

Mmmm bopped

I’m responding to Maggie and Aimee (Oct. 7 Backtalk): You guys are just jealous; you may say that you aren’t, but you are! Hanson’s music is cool, and I know plenty of people, including myself, who can’t stand the Beatles.

By the way, the Beatles are as far away from the greatest musicians as they can be. The Beatles are older than my parents; at least Hanson is my age. The Hanson guys are all that and more than you’ll ever be.

Tracie, 14 Naperville

I personally don’t like (Hanson’s) type of music, but that doesn’t mean I think they’re not talented. If they had no talent, do you really think they’d be this famous?

Thanks for the info

I want to thank you very much, KidNews, for putting in the Matchbox 20 article (Oct. 7 Feat-ures).

I love Matchbox 20; I am their No. 1 fan, and I’m so glad to find more info on the band. Thanks a bunch and keep up the good work.
