Supt. Robert Bulthaus told the District 12 board Tuesday night that he will attend the fall Illinois School Board Association DuPage Division meeting next week.

Bulthaus will be accompanied to the meeting Tuesday in Glen Ellyn by other district representatives, who will be looking for insight on how the district might restructure.

“We’re not saying the way we do things is wrong, but the pyramid model of management, with all the administrative decision-making at the top, is changing,” Bulthaus said.

“In terms of our own district, it’s clear we need to have parents, teachers and students help make decisions, and use the administration to carry them out,” he said.

Bulthaus said scheduled speaker Patrick Dolan has worked for Ford Motor Co. and for Saturn Corp. and believes schools can benefit from the new organizational model he has developed.

“I think any school district that is smart has to look at this approach seriously,” Bulthaus said. “We’ve gotten too far away from the people we serve in terms of decision-making.”
