The Chicago Bears are only a professional football team and right now they are going through very bad times.
The Bears historically have always been the single biggest source of shared common interest and affection among Chicagoans. Yes, more so than the Chicago Bulls, despite all their recent championships.
What’s happening now with the team is downright sad. The boorish (at best) and vicious (at worst) reactions by many fans and media critics is even sadder.
The Bears will be back one of these days. And a lot of people are not going to be welcome on that Super Bowl bandwagon.
