The Committee of the Whole has asked village staff to take a closer look at a proposal to bring the latest communications technology to the Bensenville Police Department.

The plan calls for the terminals now in police squad cars to be replaced with a system called Mobile Data Communications. The Premier MDT system would give each active officer a laptop computer to allow for better communications with the dispatch center and better access to records.

Tom Truty, director of management services in Bensenville, said much of the new hardware could be acquired through a swap of the old police equipment. The difference would be about $100,000.

Truty said it will give officers quick access to all village information, allow them to file many reports from the field and give them mug shots or maps of buildings instantly.
