Joseph Carani, 72, of Lake Forest, died Thursday in Highland Park Hospital. Mr.Carani, a World War II veteran who served with the Navy in the Pacific, was a resident of Lake Forest for the past 18 years. He owned Carlo Carani & Sons, a construction company in Lake Bluff that was founded in Highland Park by his father. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; two daughters, Christine Doyle and Francine Hennig; a son, John; eight stepchildren; 21 grandchildren; his mother, Clementina; a sister; and two brothers. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest.
