Abbott Laboratories announced a research agreement with Tokyo’s Taisho Pharmaceutical Co. to develop antibiotics. Terms were withheld. Since 1985, Abbott has licensed the antibiotic Biaxin from Taisho. Biaxin is one of North Chicago-based Abbott’s most successful drugs, with estimated sales this year of $1.3 billion, according to Prudential Securities.
