The Village Board has amended the Lombard ordinance that regulates the licensing of massage businesses in the village, a move that makes proof of training from a school licensed by the state a requirement for those working in massage.

The board voted unanimously to ensure massage therapists are trained by an institution licensed as required by the Illinois Private Business and Vocational Schools Act. People working at massage businesses also may be licensed by schools located outside the state, as long as the institution meets the requirements of similar legislation elsewhere.

The ordinance also makes certificates proving liability insurance for malpractice mandatory for massage businesses.
