The article “Standardized tests for college under fire in diversity debate” (Main news, Sept. 28) brought to my attention that certain state governments are trying to lower the admissions criteria of state schools.
Accepting a student based just on grades is repulsive and accepting a student based just on one test is also repulsive. I believe the college should look at both with equal concern. As a high school student, I say if students can’t work up to certain standards, do not lower the standards to their level.
This should not be a race issue (as brought up in the article); this should be about the numbers. If you have the grades and the ACT or SAT then you should get into college. If your A’s are truly A’s then there should be no trouble getting the necessary score on the ACT or SAT.
