I sure do wish luck to the folks at Newstar Energy in their search for oil under Lake Michigan (“Black gold beneath the lake,” Page 1, Oct. 14). Over the decades, technology has taken the petroleum industry to new heights, especially in the area of environmental protection. It’s just too bad this isn’t recognized by the “green” movement which obviously would like to bury this business once and for all.
Although I do appreciate writer Peter Kendall’s comments on the gas and oil industry in southern Illinois, it has in fact been more than 12 years since it’s been characterized as “strong.”
