John Carr, 73, of Mt. Prospect, an electronics professor at DeVry Institute for 39 years, died Friday in Manorcare Nursing Home in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Carr, a 14-year resident of Mt. Prospect, was born in Los Angeles but grew up in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago. After high school, he fought with the U.S. Army in Germany and Italy during World War II. He also served in the Army Reserves at Ft. Sheridan during the Korean War. He attended night school at the DeVry Institute in Chicago to study electronics and later was asked to be a professor. He retired in 1988. Mr. Carr belonged to the Northern Illinois Men’s Golf Association and was an avid golfer. He was an usher at St. Cecilia’s Church in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Carr is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; one son, John Francis; a daughter, Patricia Ann Robinson; two sisters; one brother; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road, Mt. Prospect. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Cecilia’s Church, 700 S. Meier Road, Mt. Prospect.
