General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers union continued contract negotiations at a GM engine plant in Romulus, Mich., where the union is threatening to strike Tuesday night. The suburban Detroit plant employs 1,300 workers who make V6 engines used in compact pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles including the Chevrolet S-10 and Blazer and GMC Jimmy. It also makes V8 engines for sporty cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Pontiac Firebird. A walkout could shut down the assembly plants.
