Kathryn Kinnerk (“Home Loop home,” Voice, Oct. 18) must be dreaming. She “hears the birds and sees the trees rustle” in the Loop. She also believes living in downtown Chicago is good for children.
Now that my children are grown, I would love to move to downtown Chicago for the culture, shopping and general excitement living in the Loop provides. But for raising children?
I suppose anyone who can afford the high rents in the Loop can afford to send their children to a private school. But with whom do the children living in a high-rise play after school? Where in the Loop are the playgrounds, basketball courts and baseball diamonds?
There are, indeed, many neighborhoods in Chicago that can provide the amenities a family with children would want, but the Loop, with its building boom and abundance of department stores and hotels, is not one of them.
