The horned melon, covered with ghoulish spikes, is available year-round but seems particularly suited to Halloween. And though it looks scary, its flavor is anything buta subtle blend of banana, cucumber and watermelon. (But you have to work your way around the seeds.) Also known as kiwano, this golden-skinned fruit is native to Africa and grown in New Zealand and California. And it’s got staying power: It keeps at room temperature for months.
