The village’s Board of Local Improvements intends to offer homeowners on streets which will get mandatory installation of sidewalks three ways to pay, officials said Thursday.

The board proposes to build about 14,000 linear feet of sidewalks along sections of nine thoroughfares where gaps exist, at a projected cost of $463,636.

Under the 50/50 plan a homeowner would split the cost evenly with the village, paying half in advance and half soon after construction by a contractor chosen by the village.

Under a special assessment option, a homeowner could pay over a 10 year period. But the cost will be higher because of legal fees and interest and the homeowners’ share could be as high as 90 percent, said Mark Schoeffmann, village director of engineering. The third option is to hire a contractor at the homeowner’s own expense.
