It was gratifying to read about something far more serious to millions of Americans than scandals at City Hall, campaign financing or Paula Jones.
Richard Estrada’s column (“A push for mental health parity,” Op-Ed, Oct. 21) highlighted the need for a modern approach to dealing with mental illness and, in particular, the arcane insurance programs that need to be overhauled so that mental illness is given the same coverage as any other type of illness.
Every civilized society in the world provides safety nets and support systems for the mentally ill that make the treatment of those so afflicted in the U.S. a national disgrace in comparison.
