Lawrence S. Wolff, 81, of Wheaton, former owner of Wolff Sign Service, died Wednesday in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. A native of Chicago, he was a sign painter for more than 40 years and owned his business on the Northwest Side of Chicago for 30 years, according to his son David. Mr. Wolff retired and sold his sign-painting company in 1980 to move to Colorado. Mr. Wolff returned in 1987 and made signs for his sons’ business, Wolff’s Flea Market, which ran in springs and summers out of the Rosemont Horizon and in Mt. Prospect and Rolling Meadows. During World War II, Mr. Wolff was stationed at the Panama Canal as a member of the Army Air Corps. Before the war, he and a brother operated a restaurant on the Northwest Side, the son David said. Other survivors include his daughter, Eileen; two other sons, Jeffrey and Donald; eight grandchildren; and his brothers, Robert and Jack. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Geils Funeral Home, 180 S. York Rd., Bensenville.
