It is quite reassuring to know that with the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals and institutions are providing those with special needs equal opportunities to participate and succeed in a variety of programs.

I am eager to compliment the Park Ridge Recreation and Park District’s preschool coordinator JoAnn Engel as one of those who has welcomed a few special-needs children into her preschool program. The early years of education are quite vital. With inclusion becoming a hot educational issue, Engel has provided these children with special aids and has really reached out to help these children develop, succeed and be happy in a regular setting.

Many organizations do bring in special-needs children; however, JoAnn Engel exceeds these requirements by providing a warm and loving program. Exceptional children are being served by an exceptional program and an exceptional leader.
