Former CIA director Adm. Stansfield Turner will discuss the Cold War and its aftermath at a reception sponsored by the North Suburban Peace Initiative. Turner, who was raised in Highland Park, was appointed CIA director by President Jimmy Carter in February 1977. He is the author of “Caging the Nuclear Genie,” a book that discusses how to deal with a stockpile of nuclear weapons, particularly those in the former Soviet Union.
Tickets for the speech only are $15. Tickets for the dinner and program are $50, or $25 for students and senior citizens.
