This letter is in reply to a letter from Robert A. Milcrut of Glen Ellyn. In his letter he refers to an article encouraging suburbanites to make the drive to the city to enjoy the arts.
Mr. Milcrut implies that this has him fuming because of “the outrageous price charged for parking your car.” I feel that if Mr. Milcrut would have taken less time to “simmer down” and more time thinking logically a very obvious answer would be right in front of his face.
The reason parking lot owners charge so much is because they can. For some odd reason, people have this strange attachment to their cars. Therefore, there is an appalling number of vehicles on the road, and all these autos have to be parked somewhere.
Instead of getting all steamed up and spending the evenings at home in the ‘burbs, Mr. Milcrut should try something that is literally running right through his front yard–the Metra trains that run once every two hours right through Glen Ellyn.
This is not just a lesson for folks in the suburbs, but for everyone in the Chicagoland area.
