Columnist John McCarron (“GOP death wish,” Op-Ed, Oct. 27) ridicules the Republicans for trying to “fix” the Internal Revenue Service, but he misses the basic issue.
The income tax as implemented assumes that all wealth produced is the property of the feds, not its producer. This is the equivalent of making everyone the slave of the politicians.
This is also a perfect formula for endless conflict, because it destroys the right to property. No amount of tinkering with rates will restore the freedom to own property.
The problem is government, which has become a socialist monster, taking from those who have and giving to favored clients. Government must be cut back to its constitutional duties of protection and arbitration. Then a small sales tax collected by the states would be sufficient.
