William H. Baier, 75, of Downers Grove, a retired engineer manager at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Research Institute, died Monday in Manor Care Health Services in Hinsdale. Mr. Baier, who retired from IIT in 1982, also was an engineer manager for the Electric and Space Division of Emerson Electric in St. Louis. He served on the Standardization Commission of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for 10 years and taught mathematics at the College of DuPage for three years. Mr. Baier served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Patricia. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove. Services will begin with a 10 a.m. prayer service Thursday in the funeral home and continue with a 10:30 a.m. mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie and Main Streets, Downers Grove.
