The Waukegan Development Commission has passed the last package of variances needed by the owner of Union Nissan to complete expansion of his dealership at 3327 W. Grand Ave.
The dealership is at the corner of Grand and Oakwood Avenues on the border between Waukegan and Gurnee, which voted earlier this year to de-annex a small lot to the west of the current dealership so that the lot could be annexed by Waukegan and the dealership could continue to operate in that city.
The commission voted to recommend variances to allow a zero setback on the dealership’s northern lot line on Grand, parking spaces without aisle access at the rear of the lot only and a third sign along the property’s Grand frontage. It also voted to recommend the dealership be allowed to substitute a berm for fencing between the lot and nearby residential development.
