Mildred L. Jacobs, 82, a lover of books and world traveler, who served as a staff sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, died Monday in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Miss Jacobs, who worked 25 years for Campbell Soup Co. in Chicago and later as a secretary in the Sears Tower for Sears Roebuck, enlisted in the service because she wanted to see Europe. That experience didn’t come then. But in 1962, the longtime Berwyn resident, purchased a circumnavigation ticket from Pan Am Airlines and traveled around the globe via the Jet Clipper. There are no immediate survivors. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Berwyn United Lutheran Church, 24th Street and Harvey Avenue, Berwyn.
